Abstract:
The purpose of this paper is to present some data collected in a survey conducted with the survivors of the Kiss Nightclub fire, an incident in which a pyrotechnic device ignited a fire that killed 242 people in January 27th, 2013 in the city of Santa Maria, Rio Grande do Sul State, Brazil. The paper presents data on the main aspects of the occupants on the night of the incident and a comparative analysis with the data presented by Fahy, Proulx and Flynn1 for the case of the Station Nightclub fire. The questionnaire for this study was based on the model developed by these authors for collecting information from survivor statements. In this study, the survey form was designed to be completed online by survivors of the Kiss Nightclub incident. The responses of 162 survivors were validated and the paper summarizes their reactions and responses to the fire.
