UAV-SAR geophysical method: using SAR tomography to map dam subsurface layers

Compartilhe:

Abstract:

SAR Tomography is a technique that allows obtaining three-dimensional information about materials found below the surface. It can be used to identify different layers of soil, layers of fresh or altered rock, and even buried objects. Although it works in a similar way to GPR (Ground Penetrating Radar), SAR Tomography has a differential due to the fact that it is operated from an airborne platform (DRONE), allowing the radar to obtain information even when flying over an irregular surface or covered by vegetation. Experiments with SAR Tomography are recent and have been applied to a variety of purposes, such as identifying anthills (Oré et al., 2024), characterizing lithologies (Oré et al., 2025), locating underground gas pipelines (Pantoja et al., 2022) and other buried objects.
