Real-time identification of misfire by measuring ionic current in a spark ignition engine

Compartilhe:

Abstract:

The objective of this article is to improve the realtime detection of misfires directly in the combustion chamber of spark ignition engines, using the spark plug as an ionic current sensor Compared to others methods, such as combustion pressure analyses, measuring fluctuations in engine speed or vibration mechanical analyses, this approach provides more accurate identification of misfires, allowing for individualized application for each cylinder, robustness against noise and lower implementation costs. It can offer additional information to the engine management system, enabling, for example, the implementation of strategies to mitigate this type of abnormal combustion. For this, in the experiments, both hardware and software capable of obtaining, conditioning and processing the ionic current signal are used, using the engines.
