Abstract:
Although the moisture condition of the concrete is the parameter that controls the transport of ions and gases that trigger the degradation process of concrete and reinforcement of the concrete structures, it is not common practice to evaluate this parameter in the field as part of routine inspections. The present work aims to contribute to the knowledge of two non-destructive test (NDT) that can be used for this purpose: electrical resistivity using four-pin (Wenner) and moisture content by the microwave emission method. From the presentation of concepts regarding concrete and its degradation and reinforcement and of these two NDT tests, the methodology for evaluating the association of these NDTs in the determination of the moisture content of different quality concretes is described, considering the advance of the carbonation front. Finally, the experimental program in laboratory scale of validation of this methodology is presented.
