Abstract
This paper presents a resume of the failure analysis caused by corrosion in copper tubes used in contact with water between 1976 and 1995 carried out at the Laboratory of Corrosion and Eletrodeposition of IPT. Failures were caused by stress corrosion crack, erosion corrosion, generalized corrosion and pitting corrosion. This last type of failure was observed in a greater number and was due to the presence of solid particles inside the tubes in the case of cold water
