Abstract
Stray currents studies at São Paulo Metropolitan area have been growing these last years. The great underground mettalic pipeline net, electrical and telephonic cables associated to electric traction systems have generated huge amounts of stray currents. Only the cathodic protection systems of the gas, oil and water companies are responsible for 3000 A. Reminding that part of the water companies pipelines do not have yet cathodic protection, we can imagine the danger of these stray currents to them. Cathodic protection of underground oil thanks and steel bar of concrete structures was pointed as a mean of corrosion protection against stray currents corrosion. A best railway insulation is another way for the stray current reduction. A study Committee – Group of São Paulo – has been working with the objective of avoiding and/ or reducing the action of these stray currents.
