IPT performs research on oil derivative fuels and alternative fuels (biodiesel, light ethanol, biodigestion gases and gasification of solid and liquid fuels, etc.) for the development of innovative applications for stationary and automotive internal combustion engines. This research includes studies and tests for proper use of fuels, involving aspects such as performance and generation of atmospheric pollutants. The Institute is equipped to undertake performance and emission tests on dynamometer workbenches and in the field, following relevant technical standards. The analysis of the results is stated in technical reports.
Specifically for liquid fuels, IPT performs ignition quality evaluation tests (anti-knock index and cetane number) and lubricity.
