Through the Laboratory for Corrosion and Protection (LCP), the Institute experienced a breakthrough in studies of the influence of the alternating current interference of cathodically protected pipelines. Together with Cenpes / Petrobras, the Lab recently developed a new methodology and an AC probe to evaluate the probability of corrosion due to alternating current interference. It designed a probe for in-field measurements providing reliable parameters to assess the AC corrosion of cathodically protected pipelines.

IPT has a complete infrastructure both laboratory facilities and specialized technician for pipeline external corrosion.

The following equipment is available for external corrosion studies:

  • ScopeMeter Fluke, mod. 123
  • Digital ScopeMeter Oscilloscope Fluke, mod. 123
  • Digital ScopeMeter Oscilloscope Fluke, mod. 124
  • Clamp meter AC HEME, mod. LK 60
  • Voltmeter register Yanashi mod. TANAKAS BMT-X
  • Terrameter Megabras, mod. MTD 20 kW
  • AC Power source Califórnia Instruments, mod. 1251 RD
  • DC Power source Tectrol mod. TCA 50 – 20 XR 1A
  • DC Power source Tectrol mod. TCA 50 – 20 XR 1A
  • Variable transformer voltage STP, mod. ATV – 215 – M
