Acoustic performance of sliding façade windows and doors: impact f sealing semtems, locks, and integrated roller shutters

Abstract:

This study evaluated the acoustic performance of 396 sliding façade window and door frames commonly used in Brazil, based on laboratory tests. The analysis focused on the relationship between frame components and their Weighted Sound Reduction Index (Rw), classified according to Brazilian Standard ABNT NBR 10821-4:2017, with an additional class. Frames varied in material, glazing, seals, locks, and the presence of integrated roller shutters. Results showed that elastomeric seals, laminated glass, and cremone bolts are associated with higher sound insulation (Rw). In contrast, simple brushes and thin common glass were prevalent in lower-performing classes. Integrated roller shutters significantly improved performance, especially in C and B class frames. These findings emphasize the importance of sealing systems and component selection in optimizing acoustic performance
