Instituto de Pesquisas Tecnológicas do Estado de São Paulo (IPT) and Instituto Tecnológico de Aeronáutica (ITA) signed on February 14th a technical-scientific cooperation agreement, focusing on the capabilities of the Lightweight Structures Laboratory of IPT.
The main objective of the partnership is to promote research related to innovation for aerospace lightweight structures. The agreement also establishes general rules regarding the use of the IPT’s laboratory by undergraduate and graduate students.
According to Fernando Landgraf, CEO of IPT, the agreement further strengthens the relationship between the institutions.

“The formalization of the partnership, which already exists in practice, is important to allow more joint research projects, especially regarding the 4th Industrial Revolution which is coming”, said Landgraf, referring to changes in the worldwide industrial setup.
The ceremony happened at the Technology Park of São José dos Campos, as part of the official opening of ITA’s office (Espaço ITA) in the Park. This is the first time, in 67 years, that ITA will operate outside of its campus, located inside the site of Departamento de Ciência e Tecnologia Aeroespacial (DCTA) in the city of São José. “The implementation of LEL, as well as its present operation, has included the participation of students, alumni and professors of ITA. The partnership is real. The goal is to have new projects to boost the present modernization and expansion of ITA, which is the main reason for the opening of the office,” says Professor Anderson Ribeiro Correia, rector of ITA.
LEL’s director Hugo Resende will be responsible for managing the activities related to the agreement on behalf of IPT, and professor Mauricio Donadon will be responsible at ITA. “This is will be the first agreement signed with a Brazilian university which is specific to the Lightweight Structures Laboratory of IPT. I am sure it will bring a closer relationship between ITA and IPT, strengthening links which already exist among researchers and professionals from both institutions”, says Resende.
