Indicadores de avaliação e monitoramento da recuperação de áreas degradadas pela mineração

Abstract:

In the context of mining, reclamation is generally understood as the set of actions aimed at making the area suitable for some productive use, not necessarily identical to prior mining activity. There are many potential uses for which the degraded areas can be designed, like the crop / pasture, reforestation, urban or residential area, parks and recreation areas, or simply abandon them to plant succession. The recovery can be made through different paths and reach different levels of permanent stability, even the original state or pre-existing. Thus, it seems important to define which of stable end states, could be accepted as an appropriate outcome of that project. One of the great difficulties of practicing systematic monitoring refers to the lack of consensus in the scientific literature regarding the most appropriate indicators for evaluating the success of the recovery. The challenge is to define what should be measured to evaluate the success of a particular restoration project. Faced with this difficulty in obtaining appropriate indicators for evaluating the process of reclamation, this study aimed at providing a review of the scientific literature on indicators for assessing and monitoring the recovery of areas degraded by mining. Within this scope was intended to also rank the sets of indicators identified for application in the evaluation and monitoring of the recovery of areas degraded by mining, as the intended future uses.
