Abstract:
The application of nanotechnology in the textile industry allows the multifunctionalization of textile substrates that aim to meet several areas, mainly health demands. Ultraviolet protection can be highlighted as one of these demands. The objective of this work was the functionalization of a 100% polyamide mesh fabric by means of the impregnation of nanoencapsules containing avobenzone and homosalate photoprotective agents. In the production of the nanocapsules were used the methyl methacrylate monomer and two functional comonomers, sodium styrene sulfonate and hydroxyethyl methacrylate. The polyamide meshes were impregnated using a 1:65 bath ratio and four concentrations of nanoencapsules (100, 90, 50, 10)% (m / v) and water. The nanocapsules produced were characterized for mean particle size, zeta potential and solids content. Functionalized knitted fabrics were evaluated for Ultraviolet Protection Factor (FPU), color and malleability. The results of the readings regarding the Ultraviolet Protection Factor (FPU) showed that even the lowest concentration of nanocapsules was able to guarantee an FPU 50+.
