Abstract:
Typically, new corrosion protection systems for metal structures are developed in collaboration with major global painting standards, using common materials and similar technologies. It is a very specific industrial segment with its own dynamics, where technological advances in raw materials occur mainly in technologies associated with environmental protection. Consequently each action of this nature, new schemes need to be tested and new technical specifications developed. In this work developed by IPT and Sabesp, the qualification of the painting schemes was made based on the performance of the coating systems, bringing financial and technological benefits, since it stimulates the development of new raw materials and new technologies by global manufacturers. This work presents the methodology developed to provide Sabesp with a new qualification system for protective paint schemes. The tests were carried out in the laboratory using the paint schemes proposed by the paint suppliers for specific aggressive situations at Sabesp’s facilities. These situations were previously defined by researchers from IPT and Sabesp. Based on the results of these tests, new paint schemes were developed, in accordance with Sabesp’s technical standards.
