Abstract:
The method adopted for delimitation of watersheds with high susceptibility to debris flow and flash flood was based on morphometric parameters in appropriate scale analysis. The watershed analysis was divided into two steps, both in Geographic Information System. In the first step performs an analysis of the relief patterns and the susceptibility mass movements’ maps. If the premises are accepted (mountain relief and high susceptibility) follows for the second stage. The second step is the definition and analysis of watersheds which is generated from the digital terrain model with getting the area and amplitude of these basins. The basins with range greater than 300 m are classified as flash flood and the range with greater than 500 m performs the calculation of Melton Index. If the Melton index is greater than 0.3 these basins are classified as debris flow otherwise as flash flood. The method was applied in 111 the municipalities in Espiríto Santos, Minas Gerais, Paraná, Santa Catarina e São Paulo State. Those 59 municipalities have drainage basin susceptible to deflagrate debris flow/flash flood and 21 with flash flood. The use of Geographic Information System proved to be a useful tool as it allows a wide range of analyzes making the agile procedureelaboration of these maps are discussed.
