Abstract:
Erosion is expressed as a phenomenon resultant of disruption of balance of the environment due to the drastic transformation of the landscape by removal of natural vegetation cover and introduction of new forms of land use. Therefore, the Brazilian territory, throughout its occupation process, expresses not just the erosion corresponding to the intensification of agricultural activity but also the erosion related to urban land use. The understanding of the behavior of linear erosion allows highlight two more important types: ravines and gullies. A ravine would be the result of runoff while gully would be the channel carved by outcropping of groundwater in the bottom of the incision. Differentiation between the ravine and gully has an importance in the preparation of stabilization projects.
