Electrospun nanofibers: an alternative carrier for tropical delivery of caffeine

Compartilhe:
Abstract:

The aim of this study was to prepare electrospun polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP)/Eudragit® 100 RS nanofiber mat with caffeine and its characterization. The caffeine with 8% wt to polymer was incorporated in the PVP/Eudragit® solution and electrospun to obtain nanofibers. The morphology and structure of the PVP/ Eudragit® nanofiber mats with and without the caffeine were analyzed using scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The thermal behaviors of the nanofiber mats were characterized using Differential Scanning Calorimeter (DSC) and the Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTI-IR). The amount of caffeine was determined using High Performance Liquid Cromatography (HPLC). The average diameter of fibers was 200–450 nm, with an encapsulation efficiency of 99%. Hence, the electrospinning technology opens a new possibility in the drug delivery field to develop a new carrier for use as an alternative anticellulite agent in topical application
