Abstract:
The durability of Brazilian concrete structures is almost exclusively related to their specification: concrete’s quality and adequate concrete thickness covering the reinforcement. However, other measures can be taken to secure and/or to extend the structures’ service life. Among them, we highlight the use of stainless steel rebars. Stainless steel rebars are typically used in critical elements of the structure that are exposed to aggressive conditions. Currently, it is being very used the lean duplex stainless steel type, which has lower cost. In Brazil, not only this technique but also others already established are very little known. This article aims precisely at contributing to the knowledge of the mentioned technique.
