Abstract:

This is the second work concerning to the evaluation of several handsheet properties from refined pulp under different refining conditions. As the first paper, this work was developed under the collaborative testing of several PFI mills, but included here the morphological characterization of refined bleached eucalyptus Kraft fiber and the analysis of its with different mills and different properties. These data were collected from physical tests on laboratory handsheets prepared with refines pulps supplied by seven different laboratories. The multivariate analysis of tensile index and tear properties for 20, 30, 40, 50 °SR (Schopper-Riegler degrees) are linked to resulting morphological changes of the fiber and discussed under refining action mechanistic interpretation, using fiber length distribution, fines and vessels, shape factors, and optical microscopic images.
