Coulometric reduction of sulphide tarnish films on tin

Abstract:

The technique for estimating the thickness of tarnish films on tin, by coulometric reduction in sodium carbonate solutions, has been examined in detail. The cathode current efficiency of reduction for two sulphides of tin has been measured and found to vary with current density employed. The main constituent has a high reduction efficiency (> 92% for current densities > 0.35 mA/cm2) but a secondary and minor constituent has a low reduction efficiency (55%) due to its more negative reduction potential.
