Boiler tube hydrogen damage

Compartilhe:
Abstract:

A case history of carbon steel boiler tubes ruptures is presented. The failure was attributed to hydrogen damage of the material. This damage develop during several acid contaminations of boiler food water, which determined very high localized corrosion rates so as to allow appreciable diffusion rates of atomic hydrogen into the material. The working temperature of the boiler is adequate for reaction of this hydrogen with carbon present inside the steel, this causing a permanent damage to the material. This damage, on the other hand, was sufficient to cause creep fracture during posterior peak demands of the boiler.
