Abstract:
Cadmium coatings are used for corrosion protection of fasteners made of ferrous materials. Despite the good corrosion resistance, lubricity properties, consistent torque-tension relationship, and relatively low cost, researchers worldwide have developed to replace cadmium study due to its toxicity. Through market research, were identified as potential substitutes the following coatings of cadmium, zinc, zinc alloys (nickel-zinc, zinc-iron, zinc-cobalt, zinc-iron-cobalt), odd-alloy cobalt, nickel chemical nickel + PTFE, nitriding net, and five brands, they are: coating compound hexavalent chromium oxide and metal particles of aluminum and zinc composite ceramic / metal with patículas aluminum, zinc phosphated + PTFE, zinc phosphated + organic with controlled torque and low coefficient of friction; epoxy zinc phosphate containing MoS ²; organic coating with aluminum and zinc. The IPT and Petrobras are conducting studies that intend to evaluate the applicability of these coatings on ferrous substrates by conducting laboratory tests and field trials compared the performance of the coating of cadmium.
