Abstract:

The zinc phosphate layer on steel are widely used in the processes of cold forming to reduce friction between the parts, however, other types of layers phosphatized, eg modified zinc phosphate, which are employed mainly on galvanized steel and shortly applied on steel for cold forming. This work aims to study in a laboratory scale, the behavior of corrosion resistance and friction of three types of layers on phosphatized steel: zinc phosphate with accelerated nitrite (Traditional), zinc phosphate and organic accelerator accelerated with zinc phosphate modified. The layers were characterized phosphatized considering their microstructure (scanning electron microscopy), its mass and its electrochemical behavior. Performance tests were conducted under the point of view of wear (ball-on-disk). The results of the wear tests showed that the friction coefficient (μ) for low and high carbon steels without phosphatized layer were similar at around 0.5. Phosphatized layers on both steels studied showed the following values of μ: 0.45 (traditional), 0.35 (organic accelerator) and 0.20 (zinc phosphate modified). The layers of modified zinc phosphate showed both increased corrosion resistance and reduced coefficient of friction
