Abstract:
The Peixe River Basin presents serious problems related to linear erosion of the ravine and gully type. Mismanagement of land use and occupation, both in rural and urban areas, intensifies the development of these processes, resulting in a critical scenery of degradation. This situation causes the production of large amounts of sediment contributing to the siltation of waterways, especially the Peixe River and its tributaries. Surveys conducted by the Technological Research Institute of the State of São Paulo – IPT, in the entire state found that the basin of the Peixe River has the highest number of linear erosion of the ravine and gully type (six thousand). In order to help to prevent or minimize degradation in the Basin, a project is being developed to rank the most critical sub-basins from the point of view of erosion, to guide the actions and the prioritization of investments with the Committee of Hydrographic Basin of the Peixe River.
