Abstract:

Debris flow are the most shocking phenomenon in Brazil, with emphasis on the mountainous region of the State of São Paulo. They behave in the form of highly dense flows, responsible for the large amount of coarse material deposited along the drainage, with great impact power and radius of destruction. This work intends to demonstrate a methodology of mapping where it is possible to estimate the degree of susceptibility to the occurrence of mass movements of the type of debris flow, through a systematic classification of the phenomenon and its main triggers, listing the main factors and assigning weights and notes, and as the final result we have the degree of susceptibility of the basin. The chosen area to the application was Rio Cachoeira river basin in the municipality of Cubatão / SP, due to the great history of events, such as those occurred in 1994, which were responsible for paralysis of operations at the Presidente Bernardes Refinery, resulting in high financial losses. The application of this methodology was satisfactory from the point of view of performing the first analysis in the basins delimiting their degree of susceptibility, giving subsidy for later works, whether be of a structural order with implantation or correction of works of infrastructure, or non-structural, aiming at plans of contingency.
