Abstract:
Nowadays, the constant population migration and the expansion of large cities have caused the need to build on land with inadequate geological-geotechnical characteristics, such as near river areas, on unstable and compressible soils. Thus, the choice of the most suitable intervention strategy for roads depends on some factors related to the subsoil of the region. Regions with soft soil can be great challenges for society and require certain care, so it is necessary to use a vast amount of investigation mechanisms to choose the best region for the development of these works. The objective of this article is to demonstrate how geotechnologies (Geographic Information System – GIS) can be used to expand the information acquired in previous surveys and studies. With the support of geoprocessing techniques for the elaboration of a database about a pilot area, it was possible to validate the synthesis map with soundings made in the region and to have wider information about possible locations in the vicinity, with soils with the same type of behavior, which would allow better choices of route for linear works. The use of a Geographic Information System allowed for the quick generation of maps, thus contributing to the selection of the route for the linear works, as well as for the location of the boreholes.
