Corrosão galvânica do par aço-carbono/aço inoxidável em ácido sulfúrico concentrado

Abstract:

The AISI 316L/ASTM A36 coupling in concentrated sulfuric acid presents a behavior not provided by the classic mechanism of galvanic corrosion. Although this stainless steel presents an open circuit potential greater than that of the carbon steel, when both are connected electrically and dipped into concentrated sulfuric acid, the corrosion rate of stainless steel increases and the corrosion rate of carbon steel decreases. This behavior is contrary to what is expected by the classic mechanism of galvanic corrosion. In this work, the results of laboratory tests conducted with 93.5 % and 96 % sulfuric acid at 33 °C are presented and discussed and an explanation is given for this unexpected behavior.
