Abstract:

The use of high corrosion resistance alloys, such as nickel alloys, has been growing because of the more aggressive conditions in the new oil and gas fields. However, the laboratory evaluation of the properties of these alloys regarding localized corrosion, a factor of extreme importance, presents gaps in the interpretation of the polarization curves traditionally used for verifying the susceptibility to crevice corrosion in nickel alloy. The present work presents a study of the anodic polarization curves of the Inconel 625 alloy obtained by electrochemical tests according to ASTM G 61, in a 3.56% deaerated NaCl solution at ambient temperature, with monitoring of the pH near the working electrode during the polarization test. This pH evaluation was performed to aid in the understanding of the electrochemical behavior of the equilibrium reactions using the Pourbaix thermodynamic diagrams. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) tests combined with dispersive energy spectrometry (EDS) and Raman spectroscopy were used to characterize the surface in relation to its properties and formed compounds.
