Influence of H2S content on CO2 corrosion behavior of API 5L X80

Abstract:

The corrosion behavior of API 5L X80 steel in CO2 medium with different partial pressures of H2S was verified through autoclave tests carried out at 120 C for 10 days, under agitation of 200 rpm at 20 bar of total pressure. The results obtained showed that the increase in the partial pressure of H2S changed the morphology and the composition of the corrosion product that can both accelerate and delay the corrosion process in CO2 medium, depending on the characteristics of the layers of corrosion product formed.
