In the arena of physical-chemical instrumentation, pH and conductivity meters emerge as critical equipment, being widely used in several industrial segments, in the provision of laboratory services and in the field of research and development. Measures of pH and conductivity are essential for, for example, the evaluation of the quality of water, fuels, food, and for the characterization of materials. In this sense, the degree of theoretical and practical knowledge of users about the functioning and operation of this equipment, as well as the metrological concepts that involve the measurement process, is a critical factor for the measurement to be carried out properly. Focusing on issues related to the estimation of measurement uncertainty, calibration and use of reference material, the present work presents and analyzes the results of a survey with users of pH and conductivity meters in several areas of activity. It is concluded that the practice of some metrological aspects, such as the estimation of measurement uncertainty, is not yet widespread, and it is necessary to train users and provide metrological tools that facilitate the exercise of good laboratory practices.
