Abstract:
The application of the large potential approximation method (extrapolation of the linear range of the polarization curves to the corrosion potential) for corrosion rate determination of carbon steel in acid solutions was investigated. The effect of incompensated IR – drop is discussed and technique involving its theoretical compensation is described. This technique makes possible the corrosion rate and Tafel slopes determination. Its reliability was assessed with a gravimetric method.
