Failure cases of stainless steel components

Compartilhe:
Abstract:

Stainless steel has a good corrosion resistance due to its facility to form a thin oxide film in its surface. However, under certain conditions, this film can be total or partially dissolved without recovery, depriving the steel from its passivating film. This may cause a general corrosion process or localized attack such as pitting, crevice corrosion, and stress corrosion. In this work it was presented some failure cases in stainless steel components, in an attempt to show the determining factors of process.
