Abstract:
A case history of premature failure of an AISI 304L stainless steel smelt spout of black liquor recovery furnace in a pulp and paper plant is presented. The smelt spout lasted only five months. The surface in contact with the smelt suffered a generalize craking which was ascribed to thermal corrosion fatigue.
