Abstract:
On March 18, 1967, in Caraguatatuba, Brazil, landslides and debris flows were triggered on the slopes of Serra do Mar, due to heavy rains that devastated the region. In this work, deposit zones were identified and mapped regarding the debris flows of this event in the Santo Antônio basin, and their thickness was inferred. The identification and delineation of the deposits were carried out using remote sensing techniques in aerial photos, complemented by bibliographic data. The thicknesses were inferred through the fieldworks and complemented by the literature. Five zones of deposits of debris flows were found, related to the event occurred in 1967, distributed in the tributary rivers and the main channel of the watershed. The configuration of the deposition fan suggests that the debris flows process probably ceased in the distal portion of the first hill of the basin, considering the coastal direction- Serra do Mar.
