Abstract:
The Unit for Water Resources Management of the Peixe river, covering an area of approximately 11,000 km², comprising 38 municipalities and an estimated population of 500,000 inhabitants, faces serious problems caused by poor management of its water resources. IPT (2017) and Falcetta et al. (2017) presented improvements on a methodology developed by IPT two decades ago in order to achieve greater differentiation in respect of hydric erosion processes sediment production capacity and, thus, to provide an important assessment tool to basin committee, in order to prioritize control and recovery actions in linear erosions. This paper aims to validate this proposed methodology, comparing the sub-basin hierarchization with the erosion per square kilometers per sub-basin. This concludes that it is possible to observe a strong correlation between the occurrence of linear erosions (groove, ravine and gully) and the ordering of the subbasins proposed, thus allowing to use the developments of this paper as an instrument for decision making in water resources management and, ensuring better targeting and prioritization in the application of the water use revenues.
