Synthesis and development of formulations of functional materials

Compartilhe:
A functional polymer is a macromolecular material that displays interactive functions with the application medium by means of external stimuli such as temperature, light, magnetism, electric current, ions, pH or enzymes. Typical applications of these materials include the manufacture of electronic components, sealants, adhesives, laminates, paints, corrosion inhibitors, light protectors, flame retardants, gels and membranes in separation and purification processes in chemical and biochemical laboratories.

Some areas of application under development are chemical or biochemical sensors, diagnostic devices, biocompatible implants and systems for controlled delivery of active agents.

IPT develops functional polymer products and devises technological solutions in the form of particles or films (coatings) in order to meet specific requirements of different industrial areas.

Some examples of these activities are:

Synthesis of functional materials
  • Development of functional polymers, coating technology and chemical surface modification to meet the client’s specific applications needs, by manipulating properties such as hydrophilic-lipophilic balance, ionic character (anionic, cationic or non-ionic), surface energy, adhesivity and molar mass.

Characterization of functional materials
  • Use of different analytical techniques for the physicochemical characterization of functional polymers or modified surfaces, such as tensiometry, sessile drop imaging, gel permeation chromatography, and capillary electrophoresis by the Doppler effect.
