An important tool to assure the quality, performance, operational safety and energy efficiency of equipment and systems used in the movement of fluids is the determination of the characteristic performance curves of flow machines and their components.
IPT operates test laboratories to establish characteristic curves of pressure, flow, power and performance of fans, pumps and compressors which are put at the service of manufacturers and users of flow machines. These laboratories can test fans with power ratings of up to 150 hp and flow rates of up to 45,000 m³/h; hydraulic pumps with flow rates of up to 2,000 m³/h and pressures of up to 10 bar, and compressors with flow rates up to 3,000 m³/h. These testing laboratories for flow machines, which work jointly with the Institute’s calibration installations for flow metering of gases and liquids, are accredited by the General Coordination for Accreditation (CGCRE) of INMETRO and members of the Brazilian Calibration Network – RBC.
IPT’s structure also allows for characterization tests of flow control valves for water, oil and gases, relief and safety valves, and other components of dynamic flow systems.
To exemplify its actions in ensuring the quality and efficiency of flow machines, IPT is currently participating in the Brazilian Labeling Program (PBE) of INMETRO, with a view to granting the Procel seal for efficient industrial fans.
The Institute’s technical team also performs services at industrial installations, such as testing fans, pumps, compressors and cooling towers, in addition to technical evaluations of compressed air, ventilation, and water pumping systems.
