IPT’s Corrosion and Protection Laboratory performs research and development work on corrosion and protection, acting in partnership with industry in the search for solutions to improve products and processes. Approximately 50 projects have been developed over the past four years, whose main clients are companies in the oil, petrochemical and energy sectors.
The laboratory has been expanded to an area of 2,300 square meters, with support from the Materials and Corrosion Network of Petrobras.
The work performed in this area includes the evaluation of internal and external corrosion of pipelines, the effect of alternating current in cathodic protection systems, and improvements of standard methods used in the oil industry. Other subjects of research have been studies to evaluate the performance of metal components in soil and corrosion under tension, carried out for ANEEL (National Agency for Electric Energy).
