Efficiency evaluation of corrosion inhibitors

Compartilhe:
Corrosion inhibitors are substances or mixtures of substances which, under adequate conditions, reduce or eliminate the corrosion process. They are widely used by industry in the form of liquid or volatile inhibitors. One of their major applications is the minimization of internal corrosion of pipelines in the oil and petrochemical industries.

IPT tests samples of these inhibitors to ascertain their conformity, ensuring their quality and effectiveness. The Institute has specially equipped laboratories and a specialized technical team to qualify corrosion inhibitors used in polyducts (pipelines used to transport oil derivates).

The following tests are performed in these laboratories:
  • Immersion tests;
  • Electrochemical tests;
  • NACE TM-0172 trial: this is the test most commonly used by the industry and is the only corrosion test performed in the laboratory that determines the minimum quantity of inhibitor required to reduce corrosion by petroleum derivatives to acceptable levels.
