Abstract:

Today, aiming at new sustainable economic alternatives, the use of natural dyes from the native flora for the textile dyeing can be considered. In this perspective, the utilization of the wastewater from the cooking process of the Araucaria angustifolia pinion seeds presents itself as a way of enriching the Brazilian flora, in addition to being compatible with the strategies of cleaner production. The objective was to evaluate the aqueous extract of pinion seeds as a natural dye for textile dyeing. Dyeings were performed by exhaustion on samples of cotton and wool fabrics at different pH and mordants. The dyed samples were characterized by colorimetric analyzes and color fastness. The color fastness to wash and friction were good, while fastness to light were typical of natural dyes. The pinion seeds extract shows itself as a promising source to be used as a natural dye for the dyeing of cotton and wool.
