Abstract:

Because of the growing of landslides over the year, several methods for their prediction have been developed and show that, despite of some conceptual and operating limitations, this type of study is an appropriate tool for planning. Between the alternative 4 to predict landslides on the slopes and, therefore, the susceptibility mapping, include statistical models, using existing landslides mappings and the selection and evaluation of their controlling factors. The aim of this study was to evaluate the influence of some controlling factors (slope, curvature and distance and density of lineaments) on landslides at three pilot areas in the state of São Paulo (Cunha / São Luiz do Paraitinga, Guararema and Ubatuba). The steps was the selection of areas, mapping of scars and controlling factors and calculation of the correlation between landslides and the controlling factors through the Landslide Susceptibility Index (LSI). The results showed that the three factors influenced the distribution of landslides and that LSI provides important information for statistical modeling of susceptibility.
