Abstract:
The authors present an overview of some corrosion case histories that, due to their high degree of deterioration, have been brought to study at the Institute of Technological Research. The description of each case history is preceded by a brief theoretical review of the type of corrosion mechanism which causes the problem. The following case histories are described: corrosion on buried water pipeline caused by stray current; steel bar stress corrosion cracking of prestressed concrete; crevice corrosion of stainless steel sheets; intergranular corrosion of sensitized stainless steel tubes.
