Development and design for the conservation, use and reuse of graywater and rainwater

The way we use water has been gaining increasing economic and ecological importance. The idea that water is an inexhaustible resource has been invalidated, and problems related to its misuse are becoming increasingly evident. In this context, several conservation projects are being developed, often based on the identification of opportunities to reduce consumption of drinking water by substituting sources. For certain uses, potable water may be substituted by reclaimed water obtained from the treatment of domestic or industrial wastewater, graywater or suitably treated rainwater.

IPT evaluates local conditions for reuse of water and develops basic projects for its implementation. The Institute also develops technologies for the use and treatment of rainwater, and evaluates its quality, collection methods and adequate uses.
