Growing concern about the environment has increased commercial interest in recycling and reusing materials. Therefore, the use of residues to generate products of higher added value is of interest, since it combines a solution for their treatment with valorization of these residues.
IPT is currently developing bioprocesses aimed at adding value to different residues for the production of biopolymers or other bioproducts. Among the residues under study are those rich in glycerin, resulting from biodiesel production, and sugarcane bagasse, resulting from ethanol production, apart from other industrial residues rich in pectin, starch or organic acids.
