The civil engineering industry is closely linked to the production and consumption of building materials, which require IPT’s action on several fronts: quality control and evaluation of conventional materials, according to Brazilian and international standards, as well as of innovative materials; evaluation of raw materials for the production of Portland cement and lime; conformity of materials to different uses in civil engineering; and technological support for the exportation of building materials according to technical or customs barriers.
To address these issues in both the public and private sectors, IPT performs chemical, physicochemical and microstructural laboratory tests; collects samples and tests basic civil engineering materials (such as Portland cement, lime, gypsum, stone facing materials and aggregates). We also offer technological support for the characterization of conventional and nonconventional materials used in the manufacture of Portland cement and lime; determine dosages for mortar and special concrete products; study the compatibility of additives and mineral fillers in concrete mixes, and characterize and study ornamental stone, with a view to international standardization.
