Determination of the presence and quantification of methyl bromide

Compartilhe:
Methyl bromide has been used in fumigation processes to control pests that infest wooden pallets and some crops. Although it is a gaseous material, after fumigation some residues of methyl bromide may be left in wood treated with this fungicide.

Methyl bromide is highly toxic and its use is gradually being discontinued. For treatment of wooden packaging for import and export, the deadline for use is December 31, 2009, according to Joint Regulation No. 01 of September 2002 and modification on February 14, 2003 by the Department of Agricultural Protection.

IPT has carried out analyses to determine residual traces of methyl bromide in pallets using headspace and gas chromatography-mass spectrometry techniques, within the limits specified by regulatory bodies.
